I love this phrase as it perfectly describes caring about someone who is indifferent to us: We try to catch their attention, or even worse, we try to show them we "don't care". If only we knew they are not looking... They don't even care we "don't care".

When I finally learned this, I was able to learn the words "dignity" and "reciprocity".
